Say hello to my leetle friend!

I've always dug those little battery-powered guitar amps. My roommate in college had one of the mini Marshall stacks, and it was really cool. But I didn't like the fact that it was plastic. It was so light that it would tip over if you pulled the cord the wrong way.

So I dismissed it as a toy. But then I got to thinking about how great it would be to have a headphone amp, so I didn't have to break out the big Crate amp every time I wanted to play.

So I went looking, and found this little guy:

The Fender '57 Mini Twin

It's about eight inches long and six inches high. It's actually made out of wood. With real tweed covering and a real leather handle. It has a chrome control panel with "chicken-head" knobs. In short, it's a perfect miniature of an old Fender blues amp.

And it sounds pretty good! I was getting a nice crunchy classsic-rock sound last night, but at nice quiet levels that won't annoy the neighbors. I have yet to try it through headphones, but I'm sure that it will sound even better that way.
